Want to create better digital products for Etsy without guessing what buyers want?
In this guide, I’ll show you how to analyze Etsy reviews to find real issues customers are having — so you can fill those gaps with better-designed products.
We’ll use a printable daily planner as the example, but this method works for almost any niche.
🔍 Why Etsy Reviews Are Product Gold
Etsy reviews aren’t just feedback — they’re free product research.
Inside low-star reviews (1–3 stars), you’ll often find:
-
Pain points customers repeatedly mention
-
Features they expected but didn’t get
-
Technical issues (print quality, format, sizing)
-
Opportunities to stand out with better design or more clarity
🧠 My Simple “GAP Filter”
Here’s how I break it down:
-
G = Glitches
What technical problems are buyers facing?
📝 “Doesn’t print right,” “No checkboxes show up,” “Boxes are misaligned.” -
A = Assumptions
What did customers expect — but didn’t get?
📝 “Not A4 size,” “Letter size is off,” “Missing lines.” -
P = Printability
Can the buyer print and use it easily?
📝 “Too light when printed,” “Ink doesn’t show,” “Design is unreadable.”
When I see reviews like:
“I received the product, but no checkbox appears. Doesn’t work on my version of Excel.”
or:
“The quality of the tone when printed is so poor that I can hardly see it.”
…That’s a red flag AND an opportunity.
💡 What I’d Do Differently
Using these reviews, I’d create an improved planner:
-
✅ Clear, visible checkboxes
-
✅ Versions for Excel, Google Sheets, and PDF
-
✅ Line weight optimized for print readability
-
✅ Actual letter & A4 dimensions
-
✅ Clear thumbnail showing all elements included
Bonus: I'd add usage notes in the product description so buyers know exactly how to open/print/use it.
